Part-Time Project Assistant
Summary
We are seeking a part-time project assistant for Break the Chain Campaign (BTCC). The Project Assistant will provide administrative and research support for our work with the National Domestic Workers Alliance (domestic worker rights, immigrant women’s rights) and the Freedom Network (human trafficking). We are seeking someone energetic, professional, and committed to excellent work. Other opportunities to be involved in the work of BTCC are available outside of working hours, but this position is strictly administrative/research and we are seeking someone committed to this type of work. This position might be ideal for a working parent or college student.
Hours: 12-15 hours per week (flexible days/hours)
Pay: $12 per hour, paid bi-weekly
Benefits: None
Tenure: 6 months, with possibility for renewal pending fund availability
Duties Include (but are not limited to):
- Calling Congressional offices and other organizations for information and follow up
- Recordkeeping and data entry for various BTCC projects
- Filing and organizing print and electronic materials
- Occasionally taking minutes at meetings
- Regularly making copies/packets for meetings and events
- Arranging travel/food/space/logistics for meetings
- Responding to requests for informational interviews, press, and client/service calls (answering BTCC telephone)
- Basic internet research on various topic areas as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or significant office work experience
- Excellent communication skills, including writing (excellent grammar/spelling) and a professional manner on telephone and in-person meetings
- Ability to self-organize time and meet project deadlines without constant supervision
- Independent problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Punctual and dependable
- Ability to ask for help/guidance when needed
- Positive attitude and a sense of humor
- Commitment to the mission of IPS and Break the Chain Campaign
Desired Qualifications
- Bi-lingual (ability to interpret in Spanish as needed)
- Previous involvement in social justice or human rights work

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
1. MATERIALS DESIGNER
We are seeking someone who can design/redesign some brochures, factsheets, and other materials on an as needed basis. Flexible hours. Just need to set mutually agreed upon deadlines for drafts.
We are trying to revamp our aesthetic to something bright, clean, modern (see the infographics and design at GOOD magazine for example).

2. MEDIA ARCHIVIST
We are seeking someone who can scan paper articles featuring our work/related work into PDF files so we can have them electronically and save space by recycling the paper. While this task sounds tedious, it will be immensely helpful in advancing our mission by allowing us to make these articles available to the public. Your contribution will be incredibly valued!
